Potholes are bowl- or can-shaped holes of varying size in the pavement surface down to the base layer. Potholes are often the result of untreated cracking. As traffic and erosion continue to tear loose pieces of the widening cracks, potholes are formed.
Untreated potholes will lead to greater water infiltration, damage to the base course, larger voids, and, potentially, serious vehicle damage.
