Routing opens a reservoir at the crack opening large enough to accommodate movement caused by thermal expansion and contraction. Without this reservoir, sealants cannot handle drastic movement and will separate or re-open sooner.

Use a crack router to widen the crack opening to the desired width/depth. We recommend a 1-inch x1-inch route to ensure a proper seal and expansion buffer.
