An overband creates a tight seal over the crack and also protects the crack edges on the surface from breaking up as traffic and plows pass over them.
Using a melter with a wand and 3-inch cup attachment or a wand with a nozzle attachment combined with a squeegee, apply a band of material over the top of the flush-fill. A 3-inch wide overband is common, and we recommend being conservative with the overband, no wider than 1 1/2-inches on either side of the crack.
